Clue 2.0

We do not need a remake of Clue. How can you do better than the original? There were two campy 80s movies with ensemble casts so fantastic that they should never be touched. Clue stared Eileen Brennan, Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, Christopher Lloyd, Michael McKean, Martin Mull, Lesley Ann Warren, Colleen Camp, Bill Henderson and a cameo by Jane Wiedlin (from The Go-Go’s). There is no better comedic ensemble cast anywhere in the universe. Period.

However, there is a 1988 film that’s a close second. It stared Geena Davis, Jeff Goldblum, Jim Carrey, Damon Wayans, Julie Brown, Michael McKean (hey whadyaknow here he is again) and a cameo by Angelyne. Off the top of your head, can you name it? No? Click here for the answer.

Anywhore, again, why are they remaking something that is already great? I know the original has some detractors (that mens you Kevin Smith) but come on, the new one is going to be directed by Gore Verbinski – BARF!

    Ahh yes

I LOVED EGAE. I especially loved Julie Brown. I remember when she had her own TV show on MTV called “Just Say Julie!” It was canceled after one or two seasons but it was still fabulous.

However, I think your assessment of the 80’s producing only one or two truly good campy movies is inaccurate. There’s definitely more. Another of my favorites is “Who’s Harry Crumb?” Check that one out if you want a laugh or two. It’s got John Candy in a starring role.

But, back to your original point, yeah, they probably can’t top the first one. But it’ll be fun to see ‘em try!

Now now, I didn’t say they were the only two good campy movies. I just said they have untouchabley great ensemble casts!

If we’re going for camp alone, then I would like to add Outrageous Fortune, Ruthless People and Vibes to the list! :)

    My mistake

You’re right, of course. I didn’t notice you were extolling the virtues of great casting, and not great campy movies. Apologies!

As far as great cult movies of the 80’s, I nominate “The Goonies” as one of the finest movies of all time. It even starred Sean Astin before he got full of himself in super-stardom!
