Sacha is a Pretender to the Throne
Sure, they both have bangin’ bikini bodies and they both know how to piss off and alienate just about everyone they meet. Still, celebrities gravitate toward Sacha Baron Cohen while they often ostracize Kathy Griffin. It’s a strange dichotomy. Especially since Kathy’s been doing her act for a while now and it only recently occurred to me why she’s braver and bolder than Sacha can ever be.
With Bruno and Borat we get characters who humiliate Americans and celebrities world wide. Once the mask comes off, so to speak, and the joke is revealed, it’s all seen as good natured satire and genius art! Likewise Kathy also humiliates Americans and celebrities world wide but the key difference is she does it as herself. We can all tell exactly what both comedians think of their targets but one of them hides behind a facade while the other just lets it all hang out.
For this reason alone, Kathy Griffin is clearly superior when taken to task for shedding the spotlight on America’s ugly truths – even if Sacha steals the limelight. Long live the Queen — even if Bruno wants to steal the crown for himself.
